I came to this book already familiar with the basics, and it still had plenty to offer. Some of the material is available elsewhere, but rarely presented this clearly. A good addition to a technical library, as long as you know what you are buying.

I have read a lot of books on this subject and this is the clearest.

This is the third book I have read on software development this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. The chapters on software development are the strongest — the examples are stripped down but complete, and I could follow along without constant guessing. The balance between theory and practice is well judged; neither side dominates. Worth the money and the reading time, without hesitation.

Excellent from start to finish. No filler, no padding.

I had been on the fence about this one for a while, and I should have bought it sooner. The early chapters move quickly through material I already knew, but the later sections were genuinely new to me. The examples are small enough to type out and experiment with, which is exactly what I want from a book like this. Some terminology is introduced without much ceremony; I had to look a few things up along the way. I have already recommended it to two colleagues and will recommend it to more.
